Museum für Sächsische Volkskunst
mit Puppentheatersammlung
(Saxon Folk Art Museum with Puppet Theatre Collection)

The Museum für Sächsische Volkskunst mit Puppentheatersammlung (Museum of Saxon Folk Art with the Puppet Theatre Collection) enchanting carved objects and illuminated pyramids from the Ore Mountains, printed linen from Lusatia, ornately decorated Sorb costumes and filigree lace from the Vogtland; painted furniture, richly decorated ceramics and a multifarious collection of old toys. The unique exhibition in the atmospheric Jägerhof is a delight for anyone, young or old, who would like to get to know and enjoy the folk art of Saxony.
The Easter and Christmas exhibitions are particularly popular, bringing Saxon folk customs and festival traditions to life. Beautifully decorated Christmas trees or Easter arrangements create a special atmosphere and traditional artistic techniques are demonstrated in various parts of the museum. Children also have the opportunity to try out their own skills.
Since 2005 the museum has been enriched by a new attraction. The Puppentheatersammlung, one of the world’s largest and most important collections of puppet theatre figures and props, is located on the upper floor and demonstrates the poetic, dramatic, magical and comic world of the traditional puppet theatre.
