Galerie Neue Meister
(New Masters Gallery)

The collection of the Galerie Neue Meister (New Masters Gallery) with its approx. 2,500 nineteenth and twentieth-century paintings is one of the most important modern art museums in Germany. Among the attractions of the Galerie Neue Meister are, in particular, the works of German painters of the Romantic period. Caspar David Friedrich, Carl Gustav Carus, Ernst Ferdinand Oehme and Ludwig Richter are some of the great 19th-century masters whose works are on display in the museum.

Another focal point is the collection of paintings by German Impressionists such as Lovis Corinth, Max Slevogt and Max Liebermann, as well as works by German Expressionists belonging to the group known as “die Brücke” (The Bridge), which was founded in Dresden. In addition to works of Classical Modern art, the museum contains paintings by Otto Dix, representatives of Neue Sachlichkeit, and outstanding works of the post-war period.

Contemporary art is also on display, giving rise to a charged atmosphere of animated dialogue between these new works and the established collection. Another focal point of the New Masters Gallery is, for example, a major collection of works by the world-famous artist Gerhard Richter.

Due to extensive restructuring and the construction of a new workshop and storage facility, the Albertinum is closed until 2010. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
