Albertinum.
Kunst von der Romantik bis zur Gegenwart
The Albertinum is located in the historic Kultur Quartier, the cultural mecca that lures thousands of visitors to Dresden every year. The former armoury was altered in the nineteenth century to become a characteristic work of architecture in the style of the Italian High Renaissance. With only the Brühlsche Terrasse between this imposing monument and the Elbe, the Albertinum is in the direct vicinity of such popular tourist attractions as the Church of Our Lady, the Cathedral and the Royal Palace.
Since 1889, the Albertinum has accommodated a superb collection of sculpture exemplifying the history of this medium from antiquity to the present. Yet not only the multifaceted inventory of the Sculpture Collection but also the outstanding artworks of the New Masters Gallery make the Albertinum well worth a visit: The holdings of the latter museum comprise paintings by the German and French Impressionists, the German Romantic painters and a number of contemporary artists.
Due to extensive restructuring and the construction of a new workshop and storage facility, the Albertinum is closed from January 3, 2006 on.
